Course Overview
The Acellus British and World Literature – English IV course offers an in-depth exploration of literary evolution, beginning with Anglo-Saxon works like Beowulf and Bede’s historical writings. It then moves through the medieval era with Chaucer’s The Canterbury Tales, the Renaissance with Shakespeare’s Macbeth and his sonnets, and the Neoclassical period with authors such as Swift and Voltaire. Students will also study Romantic poets like Blake, Shelley, and Keats, and delve into Victorian classics such as Frankenstein and Pride and Prejudice. The course concludes with Modernist texts, including Joyce’s “Araby” and poetry from the World Wars. Throughout, students will sharpen their analytical and persuasive writing skills, improve grammatical accuracy, and build essential real-world skills such as resume and cover letter writing, preparing them for both academic and professional success.
