High School World Geography Curriculum

The Acellus® World Geography course, taught by Todd Edmond, explores Earth’s landforms, oceans, and climates while learning how people adapt, manage resources, and shape cultures across global regions. Students begin by learning how geography maps our world: latitude and longitude, map reading, and the global hemispheres. From there, they delve into Earth’s physical systems. Tectonic plates, climate patterns, ocean currents, and discover how these natural forces influence environments and human life.

Next, they will move into human geography. Examining population trends, cultural landscapes, economic systems, migration, and urban development. Through regional study, they survey continents unit by unit: North America, Latin America, Europe, Russia, Africa, South and East Asia, Southeast Asia, and Oceania including Antarctica. Each unit focuses on physical geography, climate zones, cultural practices, economic realities, and environmental concerns such as water scarcity or sustainable resource use.

By the end of the year, students complete a regional atlas walkthrough and engage in real-world challenges. Some of which include: exploring resource management, global adaptations, and climate resilience. Assessments include: lesson practice, unit exams, a mid‑term, and final exam to reinforce learning. This online geography class builds a meaningful foundation in understanding how landscapes, climate, and culture shape our world. It will help students for future studies in global affairs, history, or environmental science.
