Online Biology Course
The Acellus Biology course is a full‑year high school program with fifteen units that introduce students to the study of life and the scientific process. In the beginning, students will start learning about the scientific method, the importance of data accuracy, and statistical analysis, then move on to the characteristics of living things while also learning about how cells work. This includes the different cell types, structures, and organelle functions, including chloroplasts and endosymbiosis.
From there, students enrolled in biology online will start learning about molecular biology. This includes items such as DNA, RNA, monomers, and polymers, gaining knowledge about genetics along with a deeper understanding of cellular chemistry. After gaining the base-level knowledge of molecular biology, students will then go deeper into it, learning about heredity, including items such as DNA replication, the roles of coding vs. non-coding segments, and modern biotechnology approaches. They will also learn about carbon’s pivotal role in molecules and processes. This will help the student learn about how chemical relationships are a large part of life’s underpinnings.
Next, students analyze ecological systems—examining energy flow, interactions between organisms, population dynamics, and human impacts on biodiversity. Finally, the course concludes with classification and taxonomy, enabling students to comprehend the diversity and organization of life across kingdoms. Students gain foundational knowledge needed for future science coursework. The course covers essential biology topics found in most high school science curriculums.

Homeschool Biology Curriculum
By the end of this course, students will have a solid understanding of biology and how it functions. They will be able to explain cell structure and function and will have a strong grasp of molecular biology, including the ability to understand principles such as DNA structure, replication, and inheritance patterns. They will also have learned about ecology, gaining the ability to describe biotic and abiotic interactions, ecosystem dynamics, evolutionary mechanisms, and the impact of human activity on the environment.
In addition to content knowledge, students will develop stronger scientific literacy, analytical thinking, and the confidence to take on more advanced biology or other science courses. This curriculum builds the foundation they need for future academic success and a deeper understanding of real-world scientific challenges.
