Downloading the Acellus App

Some Chromebook users may have trouble installing the Acellus App. This can occur for several reasons, such as compatibility issues, an outdated version of Chrome OS, or restrictions set by the device’s administrator. In some cases, the downloading of apps may not be supported on certain Chromebook models. Fortunately, there are several troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue and complete the installation.

Make sure the Chromebook is up to date:

Your device may need an update before it is able to download and run the Acellus app. To get the newest update available for your Chromebook, follow the steps below

  1. Click the time in the bottom right corner
  2. Click the gear icon to open Settings.
  3. Once in Settings, scroll all the way to the bottom and click “About ChromeOS”
  4. Click “Check for Updates”. If there is an update, follow the instructions to install it. Your Chromebook may need to restart to finish the update.
  5. If it says “This device will no longer receive updates” and your current operating system is below 116, your Chromebook is too old to use the Acellus app. Try another Chromebook, or another device.
  6. After updating, go back to the Google Play store and try installing Acellus again.
Turn on the Google Play Store:

You may need to enable the Google Play store, to allow your Chromebook to download Android apps.

  1. Click the clock in the bottom right hand corner.
  2. Click the gear icon to open Settings.
  3. Scroll down and find “Apps”. Click it.
  4. Click “Turn On” next to Manage Google Play preferences, and agree to the terms of service.
  5. Once you have allowed the Google Play store, you will be able to go into the store and download the Acellus app.

Note: If the Google Play Store is unavailable and cannot be enabled, your Chromebook may be outdated. Please try using a different device.

Clean Up the Google Play Store:

If the Google Play Store becomes unresponsive, clearing its cache may resolve the issue. Follow the steps below to do so.

  1. Click the time in the bottom right corner.
  2. Click the gear icon for Settings
  3. Find Apps and click it.
  4. Then, click “Manage Google Play preferences”
  5. Next click “Android Settings”. It will then open up a new pop up box.
  6. In the new box, you will click Apps.
  7. Then click “See all apps” then scroll to find the Google Play store.
  8. You will click “Storage” and then click “Clear cache”. If that doesn’t work, you can clear the storage as well.
  9. After this, restart the Chromebook, and then try downloading the Acellus app again.
Check If You Have Enough Space:

In some cases, it may be as simple as not having enough space to download the Acellus app on your Chromebook. We would recommend having at least 500 mb free to download the app and run the program.

  1. Click the time and then the gear icon to open Settings.
  2. Find “System preferences” and then click “Storage management.”
  3. Check and see how much space is available. If you are running low, try deleting something you don’t use anymore.
  4. Try installing the Acellus App again.
If your Chromebook is managed by a school:

If your Chromebook is from a school, it might have rules that stop you from installing apps. Contact the school’s IT administrator to:

  • Turn on the Google Play Store for your Chromebook.
  • Install the Acellus app

If you set up a Managed Chromebook for your student, you can download the app by using the Google Admin Console. For details on enabling the Play Store, see Deploy Android apps to managed users on ChromeOS devices.

Update the “Android System WebView” Helper:

To download Android apps on older Chromebooks, it needs a helper called Android Systems WebView. If this is not up to date, you may not be able to download the Acellus app. The steps below will help you check if there is an update available.

  1. Open the Google Play store
  2. Type “Android System Webview” in the search bar and press enter.
  3. If you see “Update” click to update and then allow it to finish.
  4. Try installing the Acellus app again.

If the update doesn’t work, you may need to try restarting your Chromebook and then try to update the Android Systems Webview again.
